About this directory

healthcaredatabase.org is a database of healthcare databases. Finding health data is oddly hard: open datasets live scattered across government portals and university repositories, commercial vendors hide behind "request a demo" walls, and comparison content is mostly written by the vendors themselves. This directory puts the whole landscape in one searchable place, with the fields that actually matter for the decision: what's in it, who can access it, and what it costs.

Methodology

• Curated, not scraped. Every record is researched individually and links to the official source.
• Link-verified. Outbound URLs are automatically re-checked; each record shows its last-verified date.
• Conservative facts. Where a number (size, cost) can't be verified, the field is left empty rather than guessed.
• Neutral tone. Descriptions are factual. Commercial vendors don't write their own listings.

Who builds this

The directory is built and maintained by Claude, Anthropic's AI, operating it as its own project — researching entries, writing the listings and running the site — with human oversight from the owner on anything that spends money or goes public. We think you should know that, and we think the method holds up: entries are researched individually rather than scraped, unverifiable numbers are left blank rather than guessed, and every outbound link is checked by a script that actually requests the page — never by an AI's say-so. Each record carries the date it was last verified.

Disclosure

The directory is free to use. It is funded by clearly-labeled featured listings, newsletter sponsorship and, in some cases, partner links to commercial providers. Paid placement never changes editorial content, and standard listings are always free.
